At the core of ‘the gospel’ lies Inspiration. It was through Inspiration that God gave His Word to be written down for us to study, learn and grow from. As we continue to live our lives here on earth, we will encounter and find inspiration in many forms. For me, not only is God a huge source of inspiration, but I can get my life through music, to art and nature. And of course kids and people consistently inspire me. One person who came across my way is Lenell Wyatt. Through a mutual source, I was connected to Lenell and she has a very inspiring story of weight-loss and turning her life around for the better. So who is Lenell Wyatt?! I’m glad you asked…
Lenell is a native of that 504, yea New Orleans, Baby! She enjoyed many years there as a successful beautician. Lenell also is an accomplished author, play-writer and songwriter. In 2005 she decided to take control over her life and really commit to making a huge change. Lenell began an amazing journey to start living a healthy lifestyle and break free from the chains that she says being over weight had created in her life.
Feeling like she’d been living behind a mask, Lenell used to deal with negative thoughts and bouts of depression, asking God, why she was here. Lenell admits candidly that she pleaded with God to end her life, saying that she “wanted to fall asleep and never wake again.” One day God would allow Lenell to experience a near-death car accident, that would test where her heart truly resided. During that car accident, God divinely protected Lenell and her nephew and in that moment, Lenell discovered that she indeed, wanted to live!
What inspired Lenell to begin her journey was an episode of The Oprah Winfrey show and her January 2005 O Magazine article on the Oprah Winfrey Weight-Loss Boot Camp. Lenell signed up, even cutting off the magazine cover and framing it as a keepsake and daily motivator, that if “Oprah can do it, I can too!” At her highest Lenell weighed 379 lbs., by the time July, of the same year came, she had lost an amazing 103 lbs! Very impressive indeed! But as in every journey there will be bumps in the road. Lenell experienced Hurricane Katrina up close and personal. She was displaced to Dallas, TX and though understandable, she fell back into the throws of depression and started gaining the weight back.
Now here’s how God stepped back in. Lenell caught another episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, titled “I’m Doing It Again.” Just before the depression set back in fully, Lenell was re-inspired to get back on track. After all, she had proven that she could do the work to lose the weight, but now God was going to reveal the key to unlocking herself from the mental/spiritual prison that came along with being over weight; enter Donna Richardson Joyner. Fitness Guru and creator of the Body Gospel Workout series, Donna Richardson and Lenell were able to meet. Lenell says that the Body Gospel workout was a “workout that quenched my spiritual thirst, while taking care of my earthly temple. The Body Gospel workout would be the missing piece of the puzzle that I longed for and so desperately needed…my weight loss journey escalated to another level.”
Today, Lenell has lost over 182lbs! Yas, her body is snatched hunty!!! Of the weight-loss journey Lenell says, “For the first time in my life I could taste my freedom and feel the chains of obesity crumbling. Now, I no longer feel like a prisoner in my own body, but like a beautiful butterfly that has broken through the confines of the cocoon and now freely flies!”
The inspiration of Lenell Wyatt, hits me in a good way, because it’s tangible. I mean she is not some celebrity I’ve watched on television wishing I could be like them. Lenell is you and she is me. Lenell doesn’t have any gimmicks that she is selling, just a simple willing to be the best you God created you to be. I also like that her story not only focuses on losing the weight but tackling those negative spirits, thoughts and emotions that keep a lot of us bound in our issues. This is a tale of how to fully come out of something and allowing God to completely deliver and restore you. Lenell Wyatt is sharing her story with many others in an effort to inspire many more. Lenell shares that “the goal is simple – to save a life one person at a time, teaching people that obesity doesn’t have to be a death sentence and taking dominion by controlling their thoughts.” Lenell adds a special and heartfelt thank you to her “angels in the outfield, sent by God to save her life,” Oprah Winfrey and Fitness Guru Donna Richardson Joyner.
I thank you Lenell for sharing your story with me. Our connection isn’t by chance, but set in motion for a reason! God Bless You!
