Album Review || Le’Andria Johnson (@LeAndriaJ ) “The Evolution of Le’Andria Johnson”

 Fresh off the heels of the Grammy Award winning and Billboard chart topping success of her 1st album, “The Awakening of Le’Andria Johnson”, Le’Andria is back ladies and gents, and she’s evolved!!  This time, Music World Gospel is doing things a little different here: “The Awakening” is being re-released with 7 new tracks added to make it a Deluxe album, for those of you who chose not to purchase the first time. The 7 new tracks can also be picked in as an EP titled “The Evolution of Le’Andria Johnson”.  I would be remiss if I didn’t say that I feel slightly jilted by this marketing effort.  However, listening to the new tracks, you can hear that Le’Andria is in a much better place! She sounds wonderful on this record. I was one that questioned her transition from being a live singer/performer and felt that in her first project, maybe she struggled going into the studio and giving us fans that quality sound we quickly grew to know and like so much. “The Evolution” totally dissolves all of those feelings and thoughts! “The Evolution” even steps up in production, with help from greats such as Stanley Brown, H. Doobie Powell, Raphael Saadiq, Brandon “B.A.M.” Alexander and Eric Dawkins. I was worried about the quickness of getting new material so soon, but what they have delivered to us, is actually pretty good! A great step forward in the right direction.

Le’Andria has a variety of elements on this album but keeps things fresh and new.  Her co-writing skills on some of the tracks, her storytelling and motivational advice are still there and relevent to many who can see themselves in Le’Andria, and she hides nothing!  Another thing that works very well for Le’Andria is her ability to sound phenomenal over a contemporary gospel or traditional gospel sound! I love the fusion of both on this project! My favorite track is “Let It Go” produced by Raphael Saadiq; Le’Andria sounds so good over a track like this!  I don’t know how this collab was birthed but Thank You, Lord for it!!!  Le’Andria maintains her authenticity on this project, which can be heard in tracks like “He First Loved Me” and “Overtaken”. Her skill to just simply be honest and connect with you on some realness is flawless.  I love her churchy vocals on “He Was There” and “Sooner or Later” she is so in her element on those tracks!  “It’s Gonna Be Alright” is the lead single and with its urban gospel sound and feel, young people are given a treat with an awesome message to tote.  “I Shall Leap” is Le’Andria’s victory song, co-written with her brother Terrance Johnson, the track is just heartfelt and a great way to show how Le’Andria is ever evolving and coming into her own. Now, I still want a full 12-14 track album of just amazing songs from Le’Andria, with more intricate production and awesome songwriting.  I feel like my emotions are being played with, but I’m good  with”The Evolution”and will patiently wait.  I want Le’Andria to take her time to mold herself deeper into becoming an artist, no rushing!

“The Evolution of Le’Andria Johnson” and the deluxe version of “The Awakening” can be purchased in stores and Online!  Make sure you pick up this latest project! And Congrats for her 1st Grammy Win for Best Gospel/CCM Song Performance!!! That is an amazing testimony to her career!! Look at God! For all things Le’Andria Johnson visit her Official Website!!
